Sustainable Libraries, A Sustainable Future
Our preparatory class students reinterpreted the ITO Library Tour, which we organized in collaboration with the Library and Literature Department as part of Library Week through a presentation. In this project, students were asked to not merely tour a space but to “read” that space as if it were a text. In their presentations, prepared in connection with “Earth Day”, our students evaluated the library through the concepts of sustainability (SDG 11), equality (SDG 10), and education (SDG 4). The analyses conducted within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals contributed to the development of our students’ critical thinking, interpretation, and group work skills. At the same time, our students did not only examine an existing library; they also developed their own library designs and shared their creative ideas with our 9th-grade students. This project, which brought together students from the preparatory class and 9th grade, served as a fine example of interdisciplinary learning and active participation.
