Learning Centre

The FMV Private Florya Işık Kindergarten Nerkiz-Dr. Said Akçura Learning Center is an inspiring space that fosters students' creativity and introduces them to a wide range of resources beyond just books. Here, students build the foundations of literacy through picture books, stories, interactive reading activities, and digital materials, while simultaneously developing their curiosity, questioning, and exploration skills. Both printed and digital resources play an integral role in enriching their learning experiences.

Aligned with the principles of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Learning Center nurtures students as inquiring, knowledgeable individuals. Through interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary activities in the units of inquiry, students engage in exploration and curiosity-driven questioning, sourcing information from a variety of materials. This process allows them to embrace a culture of research, library usage, and academic integrity from a young age. In doing so, they develop vital skills for accessing, evaluating, and using information ethically while forming habits that will serve them throughout their education.

In regular Early Information Literacy lessons, students are guided in how to find reliable information and conduct research with respect, care, and ethical considerations. From an early stage, students learn to question sources, respect the information they encounter, and value the opinions of others. As a result, they grow not only academically, but also socially, emotionally, and as responsible, principled individuals.

The Learning Center also features the Arzu Akçura Planetarium, a unique space designed to stimulate students' curiosity about the cosmos. Through hands-on exploration and inquiry-based learning, students discover planets, stars, and the vastness of the universe, gaining an understanding of its mysterious structure in a way that is tailored to their developmental level.

Enriched by art, literature, science, inquiry, exploration, and play, the Learning Center offers a warm and safe environment that supports the academic, social, emotional, and cognitive development of each child.
